Las Vegas Town Hall Meeting
“Can You Hear Us Now?” Tour To Spotlight Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Community
State to hold town hall meetings to discuss equity gaps and plan for action.
Carson City, NV — The Nevada Commission for Persons who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) is launching a statewide inclusion tour this October, inviting community members to participate in a series of in-person town hall meetings focused on accessibility, equity, and legislative advocacy.
The tour, titled “Can You Hear Us Now?,” aims to amplify the voices of D/HH and Speech-Impaired Nevadans while engaging allies, service providers, and policymakers in meaningful dialogue. These town halls are an important opportunity to reflect on recent legislative outcomes, identify ongoing service gaps, and shape the future of inclusive policy in Nevada.
“We need allies,” said Obioma Officer, Executive Director of the Nevada Commission for Persons who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. “Everyone will encounter someone with a disability at some point. These town halls are a chance to listen, learn, and lead with respect and inclusion.”
With 1 in 4 adults in Nevada living with a disability, accessibility remains a pressing issue. Laws passed in 2025, like those that require interpreters in hospitals and at certain polling places, are a step forward. But more work is needed to make sure everyone can live with independence, respect, and full participation in their communities.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Discuss lessons learned and how to prepare for the Legislative session in 2027.
- Explore how recent laws impact daily life.
- Provide feedback on D/HH service provisions.
- Contribute to the Commission’s annual report and December 2025 Engagement Conference.
- Help shape future initiatives that promote autonomy, equity, and access.
